"If there had ever been an All American team in those days, the late R W Muckleston would have been one of its members" stated Mr L C Altman "he was one of the finest athletes which have ever played for Wisconsin."

"Mr Muckleston, mathematics teacher at Lincoln for 26 years passed away Sunday morning at Virginia Mason hospital. Besides his widow Lois, Mr Muckleston is survived by a daughter Carol, a son Keith and two brothers and two sisters. Besides his athletic career, Mr Muckleston was trained as an engineer and practised civil engineering for some time. He spent two years on a ranch in Canada. Before coming to Lincoln, he taught at Mount Vernon, where he was successful as a coach also. During World War One he fought in the Canadian army for three years and was at the fighting front for most of that time. Mr Muckleston was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Order."

He graduated from the University of Wisconsin where he was a star football, baseball and basketball player for three years. As captain of the Wisconsin baseball tram he visited Japan in 1909 with the rest of the squad, playing various teams throughout that country when baseball was just being introduced there. Muckleston's team had very little trouble winning their games even though they "took it easy". As a football player he made many headlines and the tales about how his team would make 400 yards in a game with Muckleston contributing about 390; or about the time he ran down the field and caught his own punt, are probably pretty much the truth. He enlisted in the Canadian army and during the big push in France was both shell shocked and gassed. While overseas during the war he played baseball in the service. Mr Muckleston came to Lincoln as an athletes coach in 1924 from Mount Vernon High School, where he had coached three years. At Lincoln he directed Athletics in '24, '25, and '26. After that he became a mathematical teacher and also assisted in the manual training department in emergencies. He retained a keen interest in athletics during his entire teaching career"

Baseball Player who represented The USA in Japan 1909.

He joind the Canadian Army in WW1. His rank was SPR his regimental number was 502860. His records can be found in the Canadian Archives under reference RG150 Box 6457-4 .

In Mt. Vernon High School Washington in 1923 he can be found listed as Faculty as follows:
