CommentsVia stop at Londonderry, 12 June 1891.

The 1891 census, taken on the 5th April, probably gives us a clue as to the identity of these two children, and the initials are probably wrong. On the 1891 census a Henry Charles Muckleston can be found residing at the Dr Barnados Boys Home for Destitute Children at Stepney Causeway in London, he is aged 14 and born in Islington. He is most likely the CH Muckleston aged 14 shown above. His parents can also be found on the 1891 census living at Payne Street, Islington with 4 of their children, but not Henry nor his brother William. Although baptised William George Muckleston he could be the W L Muckleston shown on the above ships information as his age fits exactly. William has yet to be found on the 1891 census.

It looks as if Charles Muckleston, a painter and decorator, and his wife Sophia Emily (nee Field) may have fallen on hard times, or there may have been some problems with the boys, either way it looks like the two boys ended up in Canada.

By the time of the 1901 census, William was back residing with his family aged 26 he was recorded this time as William J Muckleston, aged 26, and was working as a Plumbers Labourer his brother Henry Charles has not been found on this census and may have still been in Canada at this time.

William married a Winifred Elizabeth Jane Greens in 1904 in All Saints Church, Kings Cross, London. She was a widow some 4 years older than him. The marriage produced no children and William died in 1954 aged 81.

Henry Charles Muckleston also returned to England for he married Annie Louisa Salmon in Islington London in 1905. His occupation was that of Cabman. The marriage produced 5 sons and a daughter; unfortunately Henry was to have a short life, dying in 1924, in Croydon Surrey, aged just 46, his daughter being just 2 years old. His widow Annie went on to have a long life and she died in 1973 in Croydon. They have many descendants alive today.

In 1891 C H Muckleston became a "Home Child". He was sent to Quebec from Liverpool on 11th June 1891 arriving (Via Londonderry) on 21st Jun. He sailed on the SS Circassian with a party from Dr Barnado's Homes.

It is assumed that W L Muckleston is his brother.

From the World War 1 soldiers records we find

Henry Charles Muckleston of 32 Devonshire Road, West Croydon, age 38 belonged to the National Reserve with the 2nd Duke of Cornwalls Regiment. He sign up for war service on 5th November 1914 at Croydon. He became a private in the Queens regiment until he was transferred to the Royal Defense Corps on 29th April 1917. He was discharged on 3rd October 1917 having served 2 yrs and 333 days. His character was described as very good. His records show that all his service was done "at home". In his earlier army service he fought/served at Cape Town, Orange Colony and the Transvaal, he had recieved the South Africa Medal 5 bars. His next of kin was his wife Annie Louisa Salmon of the same address. On discharge he was given a pension of 8s/3d to be reviewed after 60 wks. His reason for discharge was disability as he was suffering from Bronchitus and Chronic Asthma.

Took his wife to canada (possibly for a honeymoon soon after their marriage)
