Transcript of the Will:-

This is the last Will and testament of me Matilda Jane Muckleston the wife of Walter Muckleston of 61 Tennyson Road Luton in the county of Bedford

1. I hereby revoke all former testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me

2. I appoint my son Gilbert Muckleston of Number 11 St Pauls Road Luton aforesaid and my daughter Beatrice May Craig of Number 102 Dudley Street Bedford in the county of Bedford to be the executors and Trustees of this my Will and I declare that the expression "my trustees" shall where the context so admits include the said Gilbert Muckleston and the said Beatrice May Craig and the survivor of them or other the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of this my Will

3. My Trustees shall permit my said husband to reside in my dwellinghouse known as Number 61 Tennyson Road Luton aforesaid for his life or so long as he desires to do so free from rent

4. Upon the death of my said husband or his ceasing to reside there I devise the said dwellinghouse to my Trustees to sell the same with power at their discretion to postpone such sale during such period as they shall think fit and upon trust to stand possessed of the monies to arise from the sale thereof and the net rents income and profits until such sale thereof in trust for my children Gilbert Muckleston aforesaid and Cyril Muckleston of Number 9 St Pauls Road Luton aforesaid and Cecil Muckleston of No 710 Hitchin Road Luton aforesaid and Beatrice May Craig aforesaid and Muriel Alderton of no 7 Westford Avenue Harpendon as tenants in common in equal shares

5. If any of my said sons shall die in my lifetime or in the lifetime of my said husband then my trustees shall hold the share of such deceased son and the future income thereof upon trust for the wife of such deceased son absolutely

6. If any of my said daughters shall die in my lifetime or in the lifetime of my said husband leaving issue living at the death of the survivor of myself and my said husband such issue should take by substitution (if more than one in equal shares) the share which their parent would have taken if she had survived me and my husband

7. I give and bequeath all the remainder of my personal estate unto my said husband absolutely

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this fourth day of March one thousand nine hundred and fifty five.

Claimed to have been a nurse before marriage (to her grandaughter Joyce Sullivan) but other family members seem to think she was 'in service'. She did however, meet her husband when he was in hospital suffering from lead poisoning, his work being that of a ships painter.

She did however nurse during WW1 at what is currently Woodford County High School for Girls
